Producer: Chateau de Beaucastel
Chateau de Beaucastel is one of the largest, and most prestigious, producers in Chateauneuf du Pape. It has been run by the Perrin family for multiple generations, and under their ownership has produced some of the regions finest wines. They were also the first to adopt an organic method of viticulture, kick starting a trend that improved the overral quality of Chateauneuf du Pape tenfold. Chateau de Beaucastel make some stunning reds, with their crown jewel being the ‘Hommage J. Perrin’ cuvee. Rare, and produced in tiny quantities, it is unique in the large percentage of Mouvedre in its blend. Sometimes as high as 60%, and sourced exclusively from old vines. It is a wine produced in only the finest years, much like Salon Champagne and Vintage Port. Critics widely acknowledge that it is the most age worthy wine produced in Chateauneuf du Pape. 2009 in particular was an exception year in the Rhone, and this particular wine has been deemed by many as the ‘Wine of the Vintage’. It was also awarded a near perfect 99 Park Points upon release.
